OV Band Students Selected for Owen County Community Foundation Scholarships and Governor's Work Ethic Award!
Congratulations to Lily Leitzman, Tyler McDaniel, Jakota Fisher, and Hannah Walden on being selected for Owen County Community Foundation Scholarships this past Sunday, April 23rd.
Tyler and Hannah were also announced as recipients of the Governor's Work Ethic Award earlier this month!

Students Represent Owen Valley at Various Honor Bands!
Students represented Owen Valley very well the past few months at several different Honor Bands!
All Region Honor Band
On November 12-13, OVMS and OVHS Students met, rehearsed, and performed at Woodrow Wilson Middle School in Terre Haute, Indiana. Students gave a stellar performance after a day of rehearsal. Students selected were:

Five Owen Valley Band and Guard Members Selected for Governor's Work Ethic Certificate
Congratulations to (pictured left to right) Emily Prine, Emily Wright, Cloe Sharpee, Marissa Taylor, and Clarissa Brown for being selected for the Governor's Work Ethic Certificate this spring! These students made up 1/3 of the students selected!
Three Owen Valley Band Members Selected to Participate in the 2022 Indiana All Star Marching Band
Congratulations to Abi Lanham (Trumpet), Emma Lanham (Mellophone), and Cloe Sharpee (Trombone) on being selected to be members of the Indiana All Star Marching Band! These students helped fill out an ensemble consisting of some of the top high school marchers in the state. They also got to march in the Indianapolis 500 Parade, one of the largest parades in the nation!

All of our band students had a FANTASTIC showing at Solo and Ensemble today! In total we had 34 entries receive a GOLD rating and 2 entries receive Silver. We have 6 entries that will be performing at State on 2/26.

Bands of America Update
BOA SCHEDULE IS OUT!
Please take a look at next Friday's schedule. A few things to make note of:
The band will not be returning up to BOA on Saturday. Instead, we will be spending all day Friday so that we can watch some of the top bands in the state (the schedule for the day can be found here https://marching.musicforall.org/.../2021-Indianapolis...). Students will be provided lunch by the band boosters at 1:30 but will be responsible for food later in the stadium on their own if they would like to purchase dinner before we leave at 8:30. I recommend bringing $15 to cover higher Lucas Oil Stadium prices. If this is an issue, please contact a band director or band booster so we can help you! There will also be plenty of cool BOA merchandise that students can purchase like t-shirts and patches for their jackets if they choose to bring money for that as well.
Saturday will be practice from 8-12 and students will be dismissed immediately afterwards. This practice will be extra beneficial in preparing for ISSMA Semi-Finals should we make it due to the fact we will be missing Friday practice. If a student would like to return to BOA for finals on Saturday night, their admission from Friday (likely a wristband or ticket) will get them in which is a new addition this year!
We have 24 field passes available for parent helpers (this more than likely includes student prop scene changers). Please contact Katie McDaniel if you are interested in helping volunteer that day. We are provided no additional tickets for standard viewing. Those tickets can be purchased online at https://marching.musicforall.org/indysuper21tickets/
This takes place during the E-Learning Day on Friday, October 22nd. Students will be passed out a field trip form to be filled out and returned within the next week. The school district has already given us approval to be out this day, so it shouldn't be a problem getting these signed. Senior night was also recently celebrated early along with athletics at our game against Sullivan this past Friday night. Owen Valley Earns ISSMA "All-Music Award"
We are very proud to announce that the Owen Valley Patriot Band & Guard has earned ISSMA's "All-Band Award" for the 2020-2021 school year! To earn this award the program had to earn a gold rating in marching band, concert band and jazz band in addition to multiple students and ensembles earning gold ratings in ISSMA's fall and spring "Solo and Ensemble" seasons. Less than thirty high schools in the state of Indiana earned the award this year. Owen Valley also earned this award for the 2016-2017 and 2018-2019 school years (there was no award given out for the 2019-2020 school year due to Covid-19). Congratulations to all of our students that helped us earn this great distinction!

Owen Valley Winter Percussion finishes 11th in their Class
The Owen Valley Winter Percussion Ensemble finished 11th in their class at IPA State Finals. This year's show was entitled "Rodeo", and featured the music of Garth Brooks and Aaron Copland. A great job well done to all of our outstanding percussionists!

The Owen Valley Winter Winds finished 6th in their class at IPA State Finals. This was the first year Owen Valley has had an Indoor Winds group, which was created as a way to help make up for not having a normal marching season during the pandemic stricken fall. Job well done to all of our students and staff!

Patriot Band & Guard earns "Gold" Rating via ISSMA virtual competition!
A BIG Congratulations to the Patriot Band & Guard for earning a GOLD rating via ISSMA's virtual submission option! Three judges reviewed our submission of our performance earlier this October, and the scores were averaged to determine an average rating. OV was one of less than fifty bands in the entire state to enter the virtual adjudicated contest. Major props to all of our incredible performers who have endured such a trying year to add another stamp of success to the program!

New Music Hallway Mural
Senior guard member and artist Cassie Simmons recently completed a mural in the music hallway at Owen Valley High School. This is the first mural to be painted in the hallway, and includes references to Guard, Choir and Band! Thank you and great job Cassie!

Senior Travis Floyd featured on Channel 13 Indianapolis!
Owen Valley Senior and Drum Major Travis Floyd was featured on Indianapolis Channel 13! Travis and our other band seniors have had their final semester of high school drastically altered by Covid-19, so Travis took it into his own hands (with some help from fellow senior Sierra Willis) to make some graduation music. Please enjoy is own mashed up version of "Pomp and Circumstance".

Fall 2020 Band Events Being added to Calendar
We have tentatively begun at add dates for the fall 2020 marching band season. There will be a new member day on July 7th to get accustomed to our leadership team, and then band camp will be the following two weeks. Please keep in mind that dates are subject to change (especially parade dates). We will add local competitions and ISSMA events as dates become final.
All Events Cancelled for the Remainder of the School Year
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak across the United States, all school sponsored events have been cancelled for the remainder of the school year. ISSMA, IHSCGA and IPA have also cancelled their respective contests and competitions for the remainder of the school year as well. ISSMA has also announced there will be no "All Band Award" handed out to any schools for the 2019-2020 school year.

Owen Valley Students Participate at District Solo & Ensemble
Several Owen Valley students ranging from 7-12th grade participated in the district ISSMA Solo and Ensemble competition at Bloomington North High School. All students earned either a Gold or Silver rating, with many "Group 1" level students qualifying for ISSMA State Solo and Ensemble competition!

Owen Valley Marching Band Earns Gold Rating at Regionals Compeition
The OV Patriot Band & Guard earned a Gold rating at ISSMA Regional competition in October. We are very proud of such a fun and successful year!
